Our First Sets of Wheels
Our inside bulletin board turned into a road today. It makes a good reference for the kids with an example to look at while they build their own roads. The students made the cars themselves out of cut shapes.
Road Engineers
This week we have the chance to see what it would be like to design roads. I found the printable roads by typing "printable roads" into the Google searchbar. Students must design the road and put up road signs before playing with the cars. I have the kids put all the wooden pieces and cars on a chair while they make the road. Once all the pieces are connected and the road is "drivable," they can play with the cars. This center is constantly changing as the kids play with it, and we are adding more pieces to it as the week goes on.

Our Alphabet is Under Construction!
Today we started off the week with our first book, Alphabet Under Construction. In the book, a mouse builds each letter of the alphabet. The students had fun learning about different tools and then recalling which letters were buttoned, sawed, and zipped (B, S, and Z!). After seeing the different ways the mouse constructed each letter, the students each got their own letter to construct using buttons, feathers, beads, sequins, pom-poms, and other materials. The letters came out looking fantastic! Here is our entire alphabet, with a few close-ups of some impressive hand-built letters!
